Update Installers and Packages
Update installers for Windows and update packages for Linux can be downloaded from the update webpage. Some major updates that change essential parts of the software are not distributed by online updates. Those updates can only installed by the installers and packages that are available from the webpage. When they are released, an announcement message is shown in the Ridom Typer client.
Online Updates for Client Software
By default, the Ridom Typer Client automatically looks for available major and for data integrity and privacy critical software updates on start up. If such a new update is found a dialog for downloading and installing the update will be shown. Minor updates and updates for particular applications are not announced automatically by the software.

Help | Software Update | Search Online Update can always be used to manually check for any kind of available software updates (including minor and non-critical updates).
Important: Installing the software update requires write permissions for the installation directory, or requires to enter an administration password!
Online Updates for Server Software
A software update for the Ridom Typer Cerver can be downloaded and installed via the Ridom Typer Client using the following steps:
- Start the Ridom Typer Client and log in as "Administrator" (or any other user with administration rights)
- Invoke the menu function
Administration | Server System Administration
- Be sure that no other users are currently logged in.
- Press the button
Server Online Update to search, download and validate an available update.
- After confirming the update, it will be automatically installed after the server is shut down.
- When the shutdown and updating has finished, the server must started again manually.
Important: Installing the software update requires write permissions for the installation directory, or requires to enter an administration password!
If the database is large, the shutdown sequence may take a while. The update cannot be started before the shutdown is completed. Therefore, be sure to wait a minute before starting the server again after the update, or check for running processes (called ridomtyperserver[.exe]).
Undo Last Online Update
When an update is installed, all overwritten files are stored in the subdirectory "updates/undo/" of the installation directory. To undo the last update, exit the application and move all files of the subdirectory "updates/undo/" back into the installation directory.
