Updating MBioSEQ Ridom Typer to Version 12


The update to version 12 requires updating the CLIENT and the SERVER software. If only the server software is updated users cannot log in anymore. The same happens if only the client software is updated, The installation of MBioSEQ Ridom Typer requires administration rights on the computer(s) where the client and server are running. On Windows systems the WSL installation needs to be updated for the Ridom Typer Client.

Please follow the steps below to complete the update process. It is strongly recommended to create a current database backup in advance.


Update Process for the Server

Updating the Server on Windows

  1. Shut down the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Server and close all windows (be sure to close the Server status window as well).
  2. Download the Windows installer for the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer SERVER from below.
  3. Start the downloaded SERVER installer executable by double-clicking.
  4. Start up the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Server again.

Updating the Server on Linux

  1. Change into the installation directory and shut down the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Server process by calling
    ./rcridomtyperserver.sh stop
    (be sure to choose the correct Linux user).
  2. Change out of the installation directory and download the tgz-archive for the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer SERVER from .
  3. Move or rename the old installation folder to another location, then extract the downloaded tgz-archive by entering the following command:
    tar xvzf MBioSEQ_Ridom_Typer_SERVER-12.0.0_2026-04.tgz
  4. Change into the extracted directory 'RidomTyperServer'.
  5. If the run control script 'rcridomtyperserver.sh' was modified manually in the old installation (e.g., for changing the working directory), be sure to replace the new one with the old from the old installation.
  6. Start the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Server process again. (e.g., with './rcridomtyperserver.sh start').

Update Process for the Clients

Updating Clients on Windows

  1. Exit all MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Client processes.
  2. Download the Windows installer for the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer CLIENT from below.
  3. Start the downloaded client installer executable by bouble-clicking.
  4. Follow the messages of the installation wizard dialog until it is finished.
  5. Start the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer Client and try to login to the Server.
  6. A dialog for downloading the new WSL image will be shown (except for Windows Server 2019). Confirm the dialog to download and install the new WSL image. If multiple computers need to be updated, the image can be downloaded manually beforehand and then selected in the dialog.

Updating Clients on Linux

  1. Exit all SeqSphere+ Client processes.
  2. Remove the old SeqSphere+ Client installation folder ("RidomSeqSphere").
  3. Download the tgz-archive for the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer CLIENT from below.
  4. Move or rename the old installation folder to another location, then extract the downloaded tgz-archive by entering the following command:
    tar xvzf MBioSEQ_Ridom_Typer-12.0.0_2026-04.tgz
  5. Start the SeqSphere+ Client and try to login to the Server.
  6. A dialog with an update for the bioinformatic tools will be shown. Confirm the dialog to download and install the new WSL image.

Please use the MBioSEQ Ridom Typer 'Help | About' menu after the client has been updated to see the complete list of version changes.
